SPECIES: Calyptorhynchus banksii banksii — Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo (coastal subspecies)
CLASSIFICATION: Critically endangered
We are all aware how glorious Red-tailed Black-Cockatoos are: males feature a bushy crest and a red tail panel and females a whilte bill, fine yellow spots and bars on the head and an orange tail panel. This particular species is in decline, so much so that it faces a high risk of extinction in NSW in the immediate future, it's biggest threat being habitat destruction.
FAME is proud to announce a new partnership with ReForest Now for an Enrichment Program focusing on increasing flora species diversity in existing large-scale tree plantings and regenerations sites, to improve the ecological structure and function. More than 50 endangered and vulnerable native fauna species - including the Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo - will benefit and be able to flourish through this program.
