SPECIES: Trichosurus vulpecula arnhemensis — Northern Brushtail Possum
CLASSIFICATION: Vulnerable
Despite its name, the Northern Brushtail Possum DOES NOT have a bushy tail. Found in northern Australia, this possum species has grey fur, a white underbelly, is roughly the same size as a domestic cat and has a lifespan of up to 15 years. Sadly, a flesh-eating bacterial disease is spreading through much of the population, eating away at their face, often also causing blindness.
