SPECIES:
Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat (Lasiorhinus krefftii)
CLASSIFICATION:
Critically Endangered
One of the worlds rarest mammals, the Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat is listed as critically endangered according to the EPBC Act. Now down to around 230 Northern Hairy-nosed wombats left on the planet and once found across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, sadly - this loveable creature is now only found in one region, in fact within a tiny 3km square parcel of bushland.
And yes, they do have a hairy nose, not to be mistaken for the Common Wombat.
