SPECIES: Pluvialis squatarola — Grey Plover

CLASSIFICATION: Vulnerable

Otherwise known as the Black-bellied Plover or the Grey Sandpiper, the Grey Plover is a medium-sized migratory bird with long legs and a short and stout bill. Found along coastal areas around Australia, the Grey Plover can be found foraging on mudflats and beaches on its own or in a small flock. It migrates up to and breeds in the Northern Hemisphere and can live for up to 20 years (!!!)

Pollution, loss of habitat and introduced plant species are but some of the threats to the Grey Plover.
