SPECIES: Lepidium ginninderrense — Ginninderra Peppercress
CLASSIFICATION: Critically endangered
The Ginninderra Peppercress is a critically endangered plant found only in the ACT. First discovered in 2000 and formally described in 2006, it is one of Australia’s rarest plants, with fewer than 1,000 individuals remaining.
This tough little plant grows up to 30 cm tall, producing tiny greenish flowers in spring and summer. It thrives in natural temperate grasslands—one of Australia’s most threatened ecosystems. However, habitat loss, invasive weeds, and trampling by grazing animals put it at risk.
